Caring Specialists and Advanced Expertise

At Marymount, you will be welcomed by an experienced nursing staff, ready to provide the physical and emotional support you will need as you prepare for your baby’s birth. Your nurse will employ our centralized fetal monitoring to assess both your labor pattern and your baby’s heart rate from many strategic places within the unit. This is a special advantage that puts us in touch with you even when we are not in your room. Our board-certified obstetricians are on staff around the clock and can intervene immediately should any complications arise.

Our nursery is state-certified to provide “level 1” care, which means we primarily care for healthy newborns. All of our nurses receive specialized training and are STABLE and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certified. A nurse from the nursery will be present to care for your newborn at birth. You will be encouraged to bond with your infant following the initial assessment of his or her condition.

Nurses also collaborate with Cleveland Clinic-based Neonatologists and Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, as we provide care for newborns with special needs. If any complications arise with your delivery, your obstetrician may either consult with or request the attendance of these specialists at your baby’s birth.

If you require specialized prenatal technology during your pregnancy, your obstetrician or nurse practitioner may arrange for you to visit our perinatologist, a specialist in high-risk pregnancies.

You may also be offered state-of-the-art imaging conducted by our experienced sonographers, specially trained in obstetric imaging. Most women require only the 2-D ultrasound; however a 3-D ultrasound is suggested when the conventional ultrasound suggests that there may be a fetal problem.

A new lab test performed at the medical center’s clinical laboratory can detect expectant mothers who are at risk for pre-term delivery. With this simple test we check for the presence of Fetal Fibronectin, a protein found in the uterus when the placenta begins to separate from the uterine wall. The results are available in six hours, and will assist us in determining an appropriate treatment plan for the woman at risk for premature delivery.

We are committed to offering each mother and child specialized care administered by experienced and highly trained physicians and nurses.
