Marymount Hospital features specially trained lactation consultants to personally assist mothers who choose to breast feed their babies.
Role of Lactation Consultant
A lactation consultant is a healthcare professional who is specially trained and educated in the physiology and mechanics of breastfeeding. A lactation consultant is able to assist new mothers and infants in the early postpartum period with practical hands on assistance. She is also a healthcare professional available for telephone or individual lactation consults as needed during the continuum of the breastfeeding experience.
Helpful tips:
It is important to acquire correct information from a person specially trained in lactation consulting by attending a breastfeeding class before the baby is born. You should also attend a breastfeeding support group after the baby is born. Marymount offers both!
